In the history of the War of Liberation, the mass killing site of 71 (Joy Bangla Pokur), adjacent to Gopalganj Sadar upazila, is the place of memorials of the residents. The mass grave at the silent witness of hundreds of freedom fighters and self-proclaimed Bengali people. The freedom fighters and their supporters from different places were being shot and killed brutally. By the name of the janbangla pond by the Pak army, the dead bodies were dragged and the joy was conquered. In 1972, a memorial was built on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Bengali nation, which was later destroyed by the miscreants. Later, after attempts by Alhaj Saidur Rahman (Chomamiya) for a long time, Honorable Deputy Commissioner Mr. SM Akramuzzaman and Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mr. Md. Saiful Islam created a monument on the occasion of Independence Day on 16 December 1990.
